Root Canal

Dr. Peter Rider

What’s the best time to go to the dentist?
Tooth hurty (2:30)

No kidding that’s the worst time to go! Better to have regular checkups to make sure problems are taken care of before they hurt, this is called “Prevention Style Dentistry”.

An endodontist is a specialist in the area of soft tissue inside the tooth. Endodontists perform root canals and have received advanced education after graduating from dental school and typically only deal with endodontic-related problems. We are happy to have Dr. Peter Rider, a root canal specialist here in our office for your convenience.

A common misconception is that a root canal is a painful procedure. Actually, root canals are similar to having a cavity filled, producing no pain. Our technique has resulted in many of our patients saying “that was so easy, I can’t believe I just had a root canal and felt nothing!”

Common causes for the need of endodontic treatment:

  • Inflamed/infected tooth pulp usually under old deep fillings
  • Severe sensitivity to hot and cold temperature
  • Tooth decay or cavities
  • Chipped or broken tooth
  • Blow to the tooth
  • Swelling or tenderness near the infected tooth
  • Repeated dental procedures on a tooth

A careful examination is first needed so that the doctor can make sure your symptoms are tooth related. Often times a toothache can come from surrounding muscle pain that is referred back to the teeth and does not need root canal treatment.

Please contact our office for an evaluation if you experience any of the symptoms above, and we will be happy to see you immediately.
